Having someone make your lunch and dinner is really convenient, wonderful and relaxing - no preparation, no dishes, no stress. I almost feel guilty because I'm supposed to be sacrificing right now, yet I am thrilled because I'm eating food that is better than anything that I could possibly prepare. I definitely need a full time personal chef.
However, while I was relaxing so much I was also mindlessly snacking, and I think I need to stick to more of a regimen. Somehow I don't think the point of the cleanse is tossing a handful of almonds into my mouth when I am (sort of) hungry, or slicing pineapple for my kids and eating a substantial amount of it. So as a result of my indulgences, after my delicious soup tonight, I'm not hungry at all.
One of the recommendations that Dr. Junger makes is to try to eat ONLY the meals with minimal snacking. Tomorrow that is my goal. At least minimal, planned snacking would be an improvement. Speaking of snacks, that little coconut milk rice-raspberry concoction that Chef Simon included in the meals was really tasty.
I think I am going to try the 2 tbsp olive oil before bed again this year (it didn't go well for me last year). I think my olive oil is top-notch this time so perhaps it won't be as bad.
For those of you who are doing the cleanse and making your own meals, I wanted to post a blog entry from my cleanse last year on Day One:
This morning I woke up and made lunch for me and Matt, just so the
cooking would be out of the way. Quinoa salad with chicken and mixed
greens - it was delicious. Definitely try this recipe if you are on the
cleanse and haven't had it yet. Breakfast was a berry smoothie and I
have to say that I was starving by the time lunch rolled around. I had
my one "allowed" cup of green tea, and that helped a little. Things
were fine after lunch, then around 1:00 I started feeling really tired.
I tried tea, lemon water, coconut water, almond milk - nothing was
helping. So at 3:00 I had a snack of Mary's Gone crackers and hummus
(recipe in book) and almond butter. That was perfect. I didn't need
anything else until dinner, where we had the zucchini and basil soup.
It was just okay. I don't think I'll be making that one again.
However... suprisingly after the soup I was not hungry at all, and still
do not feel hungry and it's 9:30 PM. I am hoping this is a sign that
my body is adjusting to less food at night, and that tomorrow will be
even easier.
I had my doubts about starting the cleanse
right before a long weekend, but I think it is a good thing because
there really is never a good time to start a cleanse... and I will have a
lot of time to get used to cooking and eating a big lunch without
having to negotiate around a weekly schedule of school, activities, etc.
Feel free to post comments, recipes, thoughts here! Especially for those who are not in Facebook, this is a good place to share if you like.
Have a great sleep everyone,
Adrian
